The real cover, the Project Card (page 5), and the Session Sheet (page 12).

Sound familiar?

For the project you keep meaning to get back to

  1. Several ideas, no clear pick

A portfolio page, a family cookbook, a tidy tool shelf. They all sound worth doing, so it's hard to know which one to start.

    Sort your ideas, page 4

  2. A task too big for the time you have

“Redo the website” doesn't fit in the 30 minutes between dinner and winding down. Nothing about it says where to begin.

    Action List, page 8

  3. Hard to remember where you stopped

A few days pass, and the start of the next session goes to working out where you were and what came next.

Session Sheet or Session Log, pages 12 and 17

How it works

Four steps. The last two repeat every session.

  1. Step 1

    Choose

Pick one project and decide what “done” looks like.

  2. Step 2

    Shrink

Cut it down to a first version and a list of small actions.

  3. Step 3

    Work

Do one action in a 15-, 30-, or 45-minute session.

  4. Step 4

    Bookmark

Write where you stopped and the exact next action.

Every bookmark records three things

  • What changed
  • Where the work is
  • The next action

Next session, you start by reading it.

Session lengths of 15, 30, or 45 minutes are planning options. They don't predict how many sessions a project will take.

The method on one project

From a whole portfolio to one action for tonight

Fictional example Dana is not a real customer. Her pages show the method, not a result.

  1. Starting idea

    Redo my whole portfolio site.

  2. First version

    One case-study page.

  3. Tonight's session

    Write the “My role” section.

  4. Next action

    Add the before-and-after screenshots.

Pick one way to record each session

Session Sheet page 12

For more detail. Plan the session at the top, write your bookmark at the bottom. One sheet per session.

Session Log page 17

The quick option. One line per session: what changed, where the work is, and the next action. Good for 15-minute sessions and busy weeks.

Use one or the other. You don't need both for the same session.

How to start

Your first evening: about 30 minutes

You don't need to fill in the whole workbook first. Three steps are enough.

  1. Pick one small project

The Project Card (page 5) helps you define it and what “done” means.

  2. Write your first three actions

On the Action List (page 8), each small enough for one session.

  3. Choose a session and leave a bookmark

15, 30, or 45 minutes, recorded on a Session Sheet or a Session Log. Your first work session can be next time.

FAQ

Questions

What do I get?

One PDF, The Project Kit (22 pages, US Letter), and a START-HERE.txt file that explains how to start, what to print, and the personal-use license.

Is this a physical product?

No. It's a digital download, and nothing is shipped. You print the pages you want to use.

Do I need to print every page?

No. Start with the Project Card, the Action List, and the Parking Lot, then print the session pages you'll use. Print the rest as you need them. The filled-in examples don't need to be printed.

Can I print on A4, in black and white?

Yes. The PDF is US Letter. On A4, choose “Fit to page” (or “Shrink to fit”) in the print dialog. The pages are designed to print well in black and white, and you can skip the cover to save ink.

Does the PDF have fillable fields?

No. It's made for pen and paper, with no fillable form fields, app, or sync. The text is selectable, and you can write on the pages with any PDF app that supports annotations.

Do I need to buy the companions?

No. The Project Kit is complete on its own and doesn't require anything else.

Can I reuse the worksheets for other personal projects?

Yes. The license is for personal use: you can print and reprint any page, as many times as you like, for your own projects. Please don't share, upload, or resell the PDF.

Do I have to use the Session Sheet and the Session Log together?

No. Use one per session: the Sheet for detail, the Log for a quick line.

One project. A clear next step.
